Bow Headband Tutorial

Some ladies at work wanted to learn/relearn how to crochet this week.  We had a little crochet lunch and this was the project I brought for the group to work on.  It's great project for new crocheters!

You can use any yarn and size hook for this one!

Step one:  Make a slip knot.  Make enough chains to reach 5 inches across.

Step two:  Single crochet into the 3rd chain from your hook.  Sc across.

Step three:  Single crochet enough rows until you reach 19 inches.  Your piece should measure 5 inches by 19 inches.  Secure last stitch by slipping end through last stitch and pulling tight.  Cut from ball and weave in ends.

Step four:  To make the bow cinch piece, make enough chains to reach 2 inches across.  Sc into 3rd ch from hook.

Step five:  Work enough rows of single crochet to reach 6 inches.  Your piece should measure 2 inches by 6 inches.  Secure last stitch by slipping end through last stitch and pulling tight.  Cut from ball and weave in ends.

Step six:  Sew the main headband piece end to end, so you have a circular shape.

Step seven:  Wrap the smaller piece around the main headband piece, (covering the seam you just sewed) and sew both ends together.

Step eight:  Secure the cinch piece in place by tacking it to the backside of the headband.  I also found that sewing a couple of pleats on the reverse side of the headband piece keeps the bow area cinched and cute.

Have fun!

My new & Design alarm clock arrived today.  It tweets like a bird when I wake up and says the time in English and Japanese.  Kawaii!

Knitting Clock

While scouring the net for a new alarm clock, I came across this amazing knitting clock on MOCO Design Blog.  Golly, some people are smart.

Photographs by Cali

My parents called Sunday morning and asked me to accompany them at the Uptown Art Fair here in Minneapolis.  I usually end up trying to avoid the crowds and stay home, but since I haven't seen my parents too often lately, I opted to join them.  The highlight of our visit was "Photographs by Cali"'s booth. I love the beautiful, yet simple subject matter she chooses.  Each is a hand colored black and white print.  Enjoy!

New Additions

Yesterday, my dear friend gave birth to her first child, Noah James!  He's the little tyke I can't stop crocheting and knitting for (see posts here and here).  Mom and baby are doing well, and we are so excited to visit them this weekend!

Speaking of new additions, we have a few new textiles around the house.  Last weekend we helped Dylan's parents a bit more with the big move.  They are trading in their cabin and Victorian home for a lakefront property that they can live in year round - kind of a best of both worlds.  Dylan's mom, Vonnie, is a big collector of all things old, but since the new house is just that, a new house, she feels the old world antiques won't sit well in the new property.  That being said, she's been super generous, giving many of her old prizes to us!  Check out the crochet bedspread above.  Vonnie's great aunt crocheted it.  Something like that would take me years to make!

Also, a new terrarium that I planted.  Hopefully I don't kill it!  Fingers crossed!

Have a great weekend!

Lil' Roadtrip

Last weekend we visited Wisco to celebrate Dylan's brother, Jake's, birthday. A few little images of the card and work during the car ride.
